The Dilemma Technology development is a risky business. It happens all the time –
schedules are blown, costs skyrocket, unwarranted risks are taken, technical
challenges are encountered and not overcome. Financial backers,
managers, and other stakeholders need in-depth analysis, from experienced
technical developers who have seen similar issues before. Due diligence often
requires this analysis to be performed quickly, by experts in the field, who
have no financial stake in the issues or in the outcome. The higher the
consequences, the more the issues need to be investigated and evaluated….and
then that evaluation needs to be compiled into useful intelligible advice.
Providing that advice can be invaluable, and that is our role. In addition to project analysis, there is often simply a need for translation
– interpreting the technology for people who aren’t
fluent, putting things into perspective, as well as providing background
knowledge on the subject. |
